I enjoyed the post about writing

by Anne
(Ohio )

Hi Stacey,

I enjoy all of the posts and have been following you for a while. I especially enjoyed the one about bad experiences with writing. I love to write and keep a private journal. I never share it not even my poems. Because one time a nun ridiculed my poem in front of the entire class and said that I didn't understand the meaning of something or other. I think this happened around the 5th grade.

Another time in school, I think it was around the 8th grade I was accused of copying from a book. Even though there was no proof of this happening. No computers back then. I felt that either way I was wrong and would be punished for both good or bad writing. Today I keep it all private and hidden. I admire you for putting it all out there and not being afraid to fail or be wrong. I hope that I can do the same one day.

Thanks,

Anne

PS: I hope that I do not have to put my email address to publish this. I do not want spam.

Hi Anne:

Thank you for your post. I'm sure that our readers can relate to others trying to stump out our creativity. We have to find inner strength and do what we must in order to celebrate our creativity. I understand that this is easier said than done.

Your post made my eyes moisten because I too have had similar experiences in school. This is perhaps, part of the reason that I quit school and earned my GED at 17. I did not return to school until my 30's and now I am going after a PhD.

I realized that I loved learning but was hyper-sensitive. I didn't know how to deal with it so the bullies in my life won, but no longer.

Yes, some teachers are just good old fashioned bullies while others are amazing and serve a great purpose. It is doubtful that kids can distinguish the two because we see them as superior beings as children, as do most of our parents.

If I can share my creative passion so can you. We just have to quieten those negative voices and do what makes us happy. You are safe here because I do not publish posts by mean or negative people. Having another view point is encouraged but not meanness.

This is a safe place for creative people to share and readers to find helpful insights.

Since you sent a private email with your information I would like to offer you some probono coaching. I think that I can show you helpful ways to empower yourself within 3 sessions. Please be on the look out for my private email.

Thank you sincerely,

Stacey
